Thanksgiving is usually held at home, unlike the American Independence Day or Christmas, holidays where there are many public organizations (like lighting fireworks or going for a walk). In Canada, it is a three-day weekend, with people often taking a break on the second Monday of October each year.
Around the 16th and 17th centuries, some Catholics and Puritanists in England were converted by the emperor to convert to his religion during the Protestant Reformation. These people did not accept and were imprisoned. After being imprisoned for some time the emperor transmitted them and asked again, they still decided not to convert. The emperor no longer detained them in prison but told them that if they did not follow his conditions they would have to leave England.
