I know who designed the NFL 100 All-Time Team Ray Guy shirt first Raiders logo Raiders. It was somewhere around 1961 or 1962 (I can’t remember the exact date). My mother then named Lois McClain (now Lois Thompson) worked as an office manager for a small decal company on Shattuck Ave., in Berkeley, California (the company closed the previous decade). At the time there were only two decal companies in the Bay Area. One is the Borden Decals in San Francisco.

The other is Berkeley Decal (obviously in Berkeley) owned by Earl? (The name reminds me but my mother is 86 years old.) The Raiders racing team has just been established and needs a logo created to affix the decal to their helmets. Five artist concepts were built and the NFL 100 All-Time Team Ray Guy shirt Raiders Corporation chose my mother’s concept that was a mix of a pirate’s flag (also on a poison bottle) and a pirate. She added helmets and soccer to connect the two themes of raiders and football.
She removed the skull and crossbones from the pirate flag and replaced the NFL 100 All-Time Team Ray Guy shirt cross with the sword and the skull with a pirate with a helmet and eye patch. I remember the logo well because the decals used a manual silkscreening process that required a significant amount of “run first” into the line of things for mass production. My mother brought home my first runs as a child (now around 55 +/- years ago). I have had most of my first runs.

And kept them for years but lost them several years ago with some other second hand in NFL 100 All-Time Team Ray Guy shirt stock. I have read more than Tony Randall as inspiration for the decal. If that is true, it will only apply for future revisions. When she made the original logo, the skull and crossbones of a pirate flag were the main inspiration. Tony Randall has something to do with it. She can still be contacted if anyone cares – she’s old but her mind is still quite clear.
