You don’t need a big following to make your first affiliate sale. You need the right product in front of the right few people at the right moment. This guide walks you through setting up your Picturestees affiliate account and getting that first order.
If you haven’t read the program overview yet, start with how the Picturestees affiliate program works.
Step 1: Open your affiliate dashboard
Log in to your Picturestees account (or create one), then go to My Account → Affiliate. Applications are approved automatically, so your dashboard opens straight away. You’ll find your referral code, your partner coupon, your balance and your stats there.
Step 2: Get your referral link
Your referral code works on any Picturestees page. Add ?ref=YOURCODE to the end of a URL:
- Homepage:
https://picturestees.com/?ref=YOURCODE - A category:
https://picturestees.com/dog/?ref=YOURCODE
Anyone who clicks is tracked for 90 days. If they buy any time in that window, you earn the commission.
Step 3: Make short links for single products
Long product URLs look messy in a caption. Paste a product URL into the short-link tool in your dashboard and you’ll get a clean link in the format /go/yourcode/product-id. Use these when you’re featuring one specific item.
Step 4: Build your first collection
A collection is a hand-picked group of products with one shareable link. It’s the most useful tool in the dashboard, because a shopper who isn’t sold on one design can usually find another in the same theme.
Pick one audience and choose 6–12 products for them. For example, a “Dog Mom” collection could mix personalized shirts, a mug and a blanket from our dog gifts. Name it clearly and share that single link.
Step 5: Use your coupon where links don’t work
Some places don’t allow clickable links: video voice-overs, podcasts, Stories without link stickers, or talking to people in person. Mention your partner coupon instead. If a shopper uses your coupon at checkout, the sale is credited to you even if they clicked another affiliate’s link earlier.
Step 6: Tag every source with a sub-ID
Add &sub=SOURCE to your links, for example ?ref=YOURCODE&sub=tiktok or ?ref=YOURCODE&sub=fb_dogmoms_group. The Traffic sources table in your dashboard then shows clicks, orders, conversion rate and commission for each one. Within a couple of weeks you’ll know which channel is worth your time.
Step 7: Disclose that you earn a commission
In the US, the FTC expects you to clearly tell people when you earn money from a recommendation. Put it close to the link, in plain words: “I earn a commission if you buy through my link,” or #ad at the start of a caption. It protects you, and audiences tend to trust creators who are upfront.
Step 8: Set up your payout method
Add your PayPal, Payoneer or bank details in the dashboard. Each commission is held for 30 days so returns can settle, then it moves to your available balance. When that balance reaches $50, press Request payout.
How to land the first sale
- Start with people who already know you. A friend’s group chat, a hobby Facebook group you’re active in, or your own followers will convert far better than strangers.
- Show the personalization. A photo of a mug with a real name or pet on it beats a plain product shot every time.
- Time it to a reason to buy. Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween and Christmas give people a deadline. Since every item is made to order, promote 3–4 weeks before the date.
- Point to the product page for timing. Each product page shows its own production and shipping information. Don’t promise a delivery date yourself.
- Pick one niche first. Our guide to niches that sell personalized gifts will help you choose.
