Everyone is different, though you’d have to pry my cats from my cold, dead hands before I gave up my cats for any reason. Tell them truthfully why you didn’t give the cats back to them. Maybe you were afraid to contact them. Maybe you have a dear friend or loved one who wanted cats and is spoiling them as I type this.

-Ask for an adoption fee of $100 or more. This scares away animal abusers, or people who feed cats or kittens to snakes, or use them as dog fight bait, or get sent to labs for testing or worse. Animals listed as “free to good home” rarely end up in a good home. Show the I’M Not Small In The Atmosphere Shirt and I love this people taking you to court that you did your homework. Prove that the cats are well cared for. They get regular vet checkups. They are spoiled or near to it. They aren’t treated badly, or hurt, by the people you gave them to or any children or other pets (like dogs) who were already living there. Do that and maybe they will not go to court. Or if you do go to court, because maybe there’s a fee for breaking the contract, but maybe showing the cats are healthy and hearty, maybe that fee would be reduced. If you rehomed the cats willy nilly, and you honestly have no idea where they are or how they’re cared for…ouch. Definitely not good.
