This might be understandable from both a historical and a strategical perspective: the people there have always been much closer to Russia than they have been to Ukraine, and the port of Sevastopol brings great military benefits to the Russian Navy. On the other hand, the way Russia carried out this annexation was totally wrong in the eyes of most of the rest of the world. They basically invaded and occupied Crimea while completely disregarding Ukrainian law, and organised an independence referendum themselves. Personally, I think the occupation of Crimea is a done deal, especially with the construction of a huge bridge between Crimea and the Russian mainland. Yet, the way the whole annexation happened is unacceptable by
