With another playmate it will have a buddy to keep it occupied while you are gone and this will react much better when you get back home I have had cats for over 7 years got a new cat in February and got him a playmate about a month ago so I do speak from experience Every dog I’ve ever had with the RIP Bob Saget Thank You For The Memories 1956-2022 shirt and by the same token and exception of my childhood dog (technically my parents dog) was a shelter dog, he was a stray. Each has has their quirks but seeing as though I’ve never had anything but for all I know dogs from breeders have quirks as well. There was only 1 dog I had to take back. After we had him for a week or 2 he went after one of my kids. I probably could have worked with him but just wasn’t going to take that chance. He was also an adult, 7 or 8 if I remember correctly. 3 out of the next 4 were black lab mixes, all were wonderful dogs. Mace is still with me, he’s 12. In the 12 years we’ve been together he’s shown his teeth less than 10 times. The new guy, an APBT Chow mix has a few more challenges but he is a wonderful affectionate intelligent dog. No complaints, I’d take him in a heartbeat knowing what I know now. I’m sure there are horror stories out there. But I’ll also bet that all of those horror stories are not just the dogs fault. The shelters are looking to place dogs. Think about it. You work in a shelter that euthanizes dogs that you can’t get rid of. What are you going to say about a dog in your shelter? I wish it didn’t happen but i surely understand why it does. So I do take shelter dogs. Scooter would be off leash as well but he has a pretty severe laceration on his right rear paw.
